I am well aware that the electric fire market is flooded with what appear to be cheaper versions of the same fire; the sizes are very similar and on the pictures very little differences appear. And it is true that if you only wish your electric fire to be a secondary heating source in a little used room, it may well be that the cheaper versions are all that you require.
However, there are several differences when the fires are viewed side by side in real life. If you think that the average profit made on the fire is 50%, then the sellers of these appliances are buying them in at a VERY cheap price and you don't get something for nothing; the vast majority of them are coming in in container loads from China. I can't speak for every one on the market, only the selection that I have seen, but out of these I will list the main differences to the quality appliances that I offer:
• The glass fascia - around 3-4mm thick which will easily chip
• The appliance is noisy in operation; all have a slight background noise, but the 2 cheap versions I was able to hear in operation would have been very intrusive in a small place.
• Very fast moving flame effect, which was not at all realistic.
Please just bear these points in mind when purchasing.
